AAJA-Philly’s Media Access Workshop, 5/19

What: Come meet leaders in the Asian American community and find out what story ideas they think need to be covered in the city and what they think of past coverage.

When: 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 19. (Panel Discussion from 12-1:30 p.m. Then, time to network! Bring your business cards.)

Who:

  • Nina Ahmad, Chairwoman of the Mayor’s Commission on Asian American Affairs.
  • John Chin, executive director of the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corp.
  • Helen Gym, board member of Asian Americans United.
  • Mia-lia Kiernan, community organizer with the One Love Movement, and formerly the youth program coordinator at the Cambodian Association of Greater Philadelphia.
  • Thoai Nguyen, CEO of SEAMAAC (the Southeast Asian Mutual Assistance Associations Coalition).

Moderators: Julie Shaw, president of AAJA-Philly and reporter at the Philadelphia Daily News, and Juliana Reyes, national advisory board representative of AAJA-Philly and reporter for It’s Our Money, a joint project of the Daily News and WHYY.

Where: Philadelphia Inquirer/Daily News building, 400 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, first-floor, back-hallway conference center.

Food: Free pizza and beverages!

Parking: You can park in the garage on Callowhill Street, between 15th and 16th streets. The garage will be on your right-hand side. There are two entrances. Use the one on the left. Then, pick up the phone and tell the security guard that you are attending the Asian American Journalists Association event. When you exit, you will also have to pick up a phone at the exit and have a security guard let you out. There is also street parking.
